I mean this is kinda my philosophy, but there’s clearly extremes by which you could take it. Like with this example. If there’s anywhere diversity is going to actually exist, it’s in Star Wars. One of the alluring things about it is the creativity of the different worlds, alien species, languages and cultures. It’s literally infinite possibilities. In the Lucas days, they were so dedicated to the design of the alien cultures they created fictional real languages to go with it. For all we know, alien species might reproduce differently or have completely different sexual biology.
But there’s the flip side to that, and that is this is still Star Wars. Why does Disney need to make it matter if an alien is non binary? It’s Star Wars. I want to see ships explode, lightsaber fights, ancient artifacts, and the lore and history of the light side and dark side. The insertion of these “diverse” clowns in this new High Republic saga is less about diversifying an already diverse universe of characters, and more about furthering the left’s gender politics. What purpose does it serve the story that these aliens are trans? Non-binary I can understand, again because it’s alien they have different biology. But why go the step further and make them trans? And even if they wanted to create “trans aliens”, did they have to be so creatively vapid that their names are just the reverse of each other?
It's space fantasy. An actual non-binary species can exist in that world. Who gives a fuck if they add one or twelve to it.
