I'm about 1/3 of the way through it. Not a lot of story building, but all the competent and "badass" characters seem to be female. Outside of that, it seems fairly typical for a Godzilla movie. Not horrible, but also not great.
Better than Captain Marvel, but it's because they replaced story-building and character arcs with monster fighting. So, less cringey.
Just thought I'd share if anyone was trying to decide on whether or not to watch it.
I thought it was a decent movie. Having minority and female leads doesn't particularly bother me if the movie is good, and you're right, he ended up doing some good stuff later in the movie.
