I learned how to identify gender when I was a kid raising rabbits on the farm. If you can't tell them apart you end up with way too many rabbits. You don't need to have a college degree to figure this stuff out. In fact, it probably helps if you don't.

They're using the gender versus sex argument. They're still wrong. Any decent scientist will realize that so few people identify as neither male or female that they are a statistical anomaly. Albeit a very vocal one. There is a perfectly good way of identifying a child's gender at birth. It is the same as their sex, about 99.9% of the time and that is good enough for scientists and statisticians.
Have they tried looking at their genitals? Perhaps a DNA test if that just won't do.
Easy enough to tell their sex tho.
Edit: this sort of nonsense is why I'm a stickler about saying sex and not gender. Don't let them win their sick language games.
