I called him on it saying not only did he not say one way or the other on obstruction the doj reviewed all of the made up instances and said it wasn't obstruction. A bunch of them called bullshit on it so I showed them videos of mueller saying he wasn't saying there was or was not and articles about the doj reviewing it and saying it didn't happen. They had no clue the doj did that. Like literally not even a hint that it happened. Which then this of course led them to more mental gymnastics and then they ran away when I asked them why their news sources never informed them about it.
What I like to do after that moment is ask them why they were so convinced it was a certain way, when it wasn't, and ask them if they either internalize lying naturally as a way of defending the indefensible, or if everyone around them they interact with and every source of information they get is blatantly lying.
I know it's disingenuous, sort of, but I also like when stories get retracted later, because I browbeat them with "That means you were a fucking lying liar for all these months, spewing something that was a total lie. Someone, somewhere, knew it was a lie, and fed it to you because they knew you'd spread their lies for them. My professor literally told me to pause the video, went out the classroom, and made them all come back inside the class and watch. I overheard him saying "he probably disagrees with every single assigned reading in this class, probably disagrees with alll of your opinions and presentations, but he still comes to class, listens to your thoughts, and politely engages with you. You can at least do that."

So THAT is an ongoing and particularly infuriating point of Liberal Self-Righteous Virtue Signalling I don't agree with (the whole lockdown BS, the loss of all our liberties, etc).
One sister in town - emotions over facts - always leaves the room in a stomping huff whenever I bring up uncomfortable "facts" not heard on her beloved CBS (Corporate BullShit) 'news'. If you want to truly understand and you’re Christian, consider the possibility that God doesn’t exist. Consider how much of your life is tied up in the notion of faith to God. Your morality, duties, habits etc. If you aligned yourself simply to God and not Truth (God IS truth but that’s a deeper argument), then the notion that God may not exist would possibly destroy much about you.

Perhaps even more important is the mechanisms by which cults recruit, retain and 'manage' thier members. When people escape, it's usually because something went wrong or a peak behind the curtain was mistakenly allowed. The truly scary shit happens when it works and the followers stick with it. The study of a fully functioning cult and it's members can really haunt a person.
These are places where blindly accepting a prescribed belief system, often without even knowing what the beliefs are, will gain a person acceptance. Being able to eat lunch by yourself is an undervalued life skill these days. And some people will allow themselves to be violated in horrible ways just to have a group to eat lunch with.
For a time during the 70s and 80s, high schools in affluent areas regularly included curriculum meant to harden students against being recruited by a cult. Many of the 70s era cults intentionally targeted young, affluent, naive people with possession of or access to resources like trust funds, inheritances and 'college funds' etc.
A fool and his money are soon parted. It's as if the victims are so afraid or intimidated by the prospect of managing the resources afforded to them that they would rather sign it all over to some self anointed guru and let them fuck shit up instead. Once they've given over everything, including their free will, these victims can become alarmingly dangerous. I repeat, Codependents are just as dangerous as thier malignant narcissist handlers.

When I was around 21 or so, I stopped to get something at the local drug store. There was a girl outside, by herself. She looked really familiar to me, but I couldn’t place where I had met her before. She attempted to tell me about her wonderful world of knowledge. Turns out she was a Moonie. Luckily, I had seen a documentary about it when journalism was somewhat truthful. I let her talk a bit and asked why she was out on the sidewalk when her family wanted her back home. I told her they missed her and that she should go back. I remember that she looked very sad. I hope she did.

Tell him to start giving her an allowance per week. Call it 100.00. Do that for a month. Then bump it to 200 the next month but take back 25.00 each week for tax. Next month bump it to 300.00 raise the tax to 75.00 and arbitrarily take another 50.00 and give it to one of his acquaintances who "needs it more than her" and so on.
