Everybody acting like they know what's up, but you can't tell whether that gun is loaded or not from this pic. Just because there's a mag in the well doesn't mean it has rounds in it.

The first rule of gun safety isn't "Treat every gun as if it's loaded"

It's "treat every gun as if it's loaded until you personally verify that it is not"

If that guy knows it's not loaded, what he's doing is fine.

And don't give me your crap about "Oh, but you should still treat it that way, it's just good discipline". Save that for your 11 year olds.

If y'all followed your own rules you wouldn't ever be able to clean your guns.

At any IPSA-sanctioned event, if you even take your pistol out of the holster w/o being in a specific and designated safety area (or being the active shooter), you'll get tossed out of the event for violating safety. Doesn't matter if you can prove it to be unloaded or not. No warnings, no words of advice - you get kicked out. Do it at the next (or subsequent) event and you get banned permanently.

That's just for taking the pistol out of its holster, let alone sticking your snot-slinger inside the trigger guard.

It's not about whether the guy holding the firearm knows it's empty - it's about...

  1. ... everyone around him not thinking he's a dumbass about to get someone killed due to negligence.

  2. ... being consistent in how you handle the thing. Even if you're all alone, you just don't casually stick your finger in the trigger guard unless you have a specific reason to do so.

Yeah, what a laugh. My firearms training (20 years ago) specifically, categorically and purposely treated EVERY gun as loaded even when it was obviously not. You would literally get screamed at for pointing a revolver at anyone even with the drum open. "If that guy knows it's not loaded, what he's doing is fine." -- this is classic. It is called trigger discipline. It is literally a discipline but you know, if you know it's not loaded, brandish it like a bandito and ride the fucking trigger. This exact attitude resulted in a hole in the gun cabinet and floor and got someone shit-canned. "It's not about whether the guy holding the firearm knows it's empty - it's about... ... everyone around him not thinking he's a dumbass about to get someone killed due to negligence." - so fucking true, what a tool!

No it didn't. If it resulted in a hole in a cabinet, then the person didn't follow the rules and didn't check it himself. That's called negligence and is the opposite of discipline, genius.

I wasn't talking to you. Do that shit down the range, with active duty cops, military and you will get checked fast. You look like a fucking noob and put everyone around you on edge but OK you the man. By the way, they both did not check the gun.

At any IPSA-sanctioned event

Good thing we're not talking about sanctioned events from organized groups that have insurance and liability issues they have to worry about, huh?

you just don't casually stick your finger in the trigger guard unless you have a specific reason to do so.

Oh, look, you agree with me. You know nothing about this guy's reasons.

He may be an idiot. Probably is. But you don't know that from a picture. Period.
