Okay then if you're talking about 'at home' there are also a myriad of reasons why life might be tough - beyond being 'indigenous'. There's a difference between being Native in Iqaluit, or the highway of tears in BC, or at the Wabano centre downtown Ottawa. You know - there are white boys who got molested in school too. There are english kids in Quebec who get bullied. There are poor Canadian families all across the country if you bother to look. Take a drive anywhere outside of a major city. Go visit the Maritimes.

I don't want you to qualify your grandpa to me - I want you to stop generalizing an entire nation based on your narrow perspective. Maybe "you" have been tucked away and safe. The government isn't lame/boring, they're getting away with their plans in broad daylight and 'boring' doesn't quite capture the emotion people are feeling.
