What you are saying is most likely correct under the law, but some things transcend. Hopefully nobody will ever have to face that situation again, but if they do and they kill the rapist, I would understand. Not sure how old you are, but think of NYC in the 80's. Crime ran rampant. The government couldn't protect the citizens. Vigilante justice started to happen. Was it illegal? Yes. But circumstances drove people to it. If you remember Bernie Goetz (sp?), he was acquitted because the jury understood.
