Usually you want way more solution in the syringe than needed to help you clear any air bubbles (that would be a Bad Thing)- but you don't want to overdose either - so the excess is dumped. You're not paying for it.

Which reminds me ... with this crazy volume of shots ... I would worry about some n00b "nurse" screwing up the basics more than about the actual stuff. Sure "anybody can do it" .. that's exactly the problem.

They make it idiot proof these days. You clear any obvious air bubbles and then dump the entire syringe. Air bubbles are less of a concern with vaccines because they are injected into muscle and not directly into a blood vessel.

Ah yes true, you are right, air bubbles are not really a threat in this case - however don't underestimate n00b nurses, they may find a way to inject it into a blood vessel anyways.

I was sidetracked by my memories of my blood donor days and those "vein hunting nurses" - a junky would do better. :D

It’s not a vaccine.

I've had IVs before and watched bubbles go into my vein. Nothing happened.

Thats because it takes approximately 10cc or mls of air to cauze problems. There is actually a thing called a bubble study where 2cc of air mixed with saline and mixed until its a bunch of smaller bubbles and is quickly injected into the blood stream. Tbey watch it go to the heart under ultrasound. Kinda neat

My Dr wanted to do that to me for a problem that was resolved years prior. I said no way.

I don't know, it's was quite a bit of large bubbles that went through the line when they changed the bag.

The rushing to make money is causing workers to rush and increasing mistakes. This one was supposedly caught in time but others won’t be until it’s too late.

Yup. One of my friends has an arm injury from how she received a vaccine many years ago. Really opened her eyes up to the dangers of vaccinations.

Also: when pushing for volume in a hurry ... quality tends to suffer . If nothing else, people are lining up for a sub-par service they would never accept otherwise. Well I guess that's how vaccinations have been for many Africans for decades - we're truly becoming the Third World.

They don't inject vaccines into a vein so air bubble isnt really a threat, usually its thr amount needed and if it was an air bubble thing she would squirt it out before not after.
