They pretty explicitly say that the masks everyone are wearing don't protect you and are meant to reduce spread to others. About as effective as coughing into your sleeve.
Not that it matters much if people used N95s. Most people wouldn't get a proper face seal to make them work.
I picked up a couple extra real (3M silicone mask + p100) respirators in February when the death rate reported was like 10%. I do a lot of construction and metal work projects and they're nice to have so I don't have black boogers for the rest of the day. It would have been actually merited at 10% but thankfully it turned out to be unecessary for Covid. I'd also rather not shave my beard.

The real reason for the masks is to impose fear. A constant, highly-visible reminder of the pandemic. An attempt to prevent any return to normalcy. If the masks actually worked (in terms of preventing infection, that is) they probably would have been mandated anyway. "We need to keep wearing to prevent a resurgence of the disease" or some crap.
The question I was hoping flauci would answer, before he get'sa thrown out on his face, is if this virus is as deadly as they say, why do they not have bio-hazard drop off containers on every corner, for disposal of all the used face mask? Also, if my memory serves me , didn't flauci go on national TV and tell us, to not use mask, or purchase them, that we needed to save them for the front line workers, cause china's import didn't make it to port yet.
