I know an ER doc and we were talking about liability.
He told me about a patient who presented with massively high pulse and BP. He asked him if he had been taking drugs. He said no. Tox screen comes back positive for opioids and amphetamines. They treat him, counsel him, release him with a reservation for a treatment center on Monday.
4 hours later he comes back in an ambulance, coding out. Had the nurse not gotten the girlfriend to admit he had gone home and taken another hit, my friend would have been sued.
Edit for context. This patient was taking speed balls.
Speed balls can be very deadly because they are an unknown mixture of many possible combinations of "uppers, and downers". I remember when they were a combination of Heroin, and Cocaine. Even worse the "purity", or % of either drug was always in question. Opium (Heroin) addicts in the 30's used very little to get high as the purity was in the 80-90 % range. But as dealers cut their product with milk sugar to make more money it fell to 2-3 % in the 60's,70's. Any variation, or bad cutting could result in a OD, and death. Many a dealer would get rid of a bad customer, or suspected snitch by selling them a "hot shot", or "10 cent pistol". OD's among dopers are common, and it's not surprising that Floyd finally hit the end of his road. It's inevitable.
My dealer's coffee table ? Sorry but it sounds as if you are resembling yourself. But yes dope dealers mostly cut to make more money, but also add other products to give their product a kick, or taste to pass it off as "good shit". Fentanyl is just the latest. Arsenic has also been used as has been Quinine (bitter taste). There is so much milk sugar in Heroin that long time addicts actually have their teeth rot out, and get diabetes.

You are saying that the quality control on your dealer’s coffee table isn’t stringent enough to produce a consistent product?
