The dollar is already 80% digital. There are more dollars in "circulation" than there are physical printed dollars.

Also, be careful about "digital currency not under control of government". Blockstream has a strangle hold on Bitcoin and its value is tightly coupled to Tether that has no limits on supply.

So what do you think the future of bitcoin is?

Blockstream inserted thier developers into bitcoin to cripple its scaling capability. Frequently transaction costs are now prohibitively expensive and transactions are days behind. The championed the idea that bitcoin was not money but a store of value like gold and a settlement network that other higher level (and faster/higher capacity) networks could use to settle nightly transactions in large batches. Blockstream has this tech called lightning network. It works more like a banking network, has cumbersome requirements to send money, and can straight up eat your coin. Remember how bitcoin seemed like it s going mainstream when Dell, Expedia, dish network etc accepted it as payment? The crippled transaction capacity and high transaction costs made it pointless. So I think it's never going to be a free and open currency but it will still have value as a settlement asset.
