Why didn’t Derek get off his neck after he was dead? Did he not feel him? Maybe it’s hard to notice from his view? Maybe I’m just high level with this stuff but I can see exactly when he went out. Is it procedure? I understand the overdose and chauvin didn’t kill him but why wouldn’t you take your knee off once he’s “dead/unconscious/sleep”?

Other angles show Chauvin really didn't have his weight on Floyd's neck; weight was on his other leg/foot, but he was positioned to shift his weight almost instantly if the need arose (i.e. if Floyd tried to escape or tried to grab the officer's gun).

But to answer your question more directly, habitual criminals tend to be very familiar with tricks to use to try to escape law enforcement. "I can't breathe" and pretending to be unconscious are high on the list of tricks, as it may enable them to move quickly and catch the officer off-guard. If an officer falls for one of these tricks, the result can be deadly for the officer (and sometimes for other officers or passers-by in the immediate vicinity).

He was just repeatedly collapsing to the ground and refusing to walk to the police car. He was completely uncooperative getting into the back of the car and fighting with the officers who were being really patient and respectful with him while trying to get him to comply with their orders. They probably left him in that position because they were sick of dealing with his bullshit, crying and being over dramatic.
