As an American, if you dangle my God Given Freedom in front of me and say that I can have it if I do this and that, not only will I take it from you by force, I'm liable to shoot you in the face for having the audacity for trying it in the first place. In addition, I'm pretty old and decrepit and would just as soon shoot you first without saying a word as fight you for it. At some point, "proper channels" isn't in my vocabulary.
