Most atheists come from a Christian society. They believe they would still have morals even without it.
Well they grew up in a society based on religion, so of course the morals they would have would be the same morals any Christian would have.
If they grew up on an island somewhere in the middle of no where, it would be "moral" for them to kill someone else because they smelled bad. (As an example).
Atheists believe they are morally superior, but the root beliefs they have come from Christianity or what ever religious theology their home society was built on.
Most atheists I have known do not believe they are morally superior. (The ones that do follow the leftist religion.) They simply do not accept the claim that a god(s) exist.
And you are correct that many of their beliefs are the same as whatever belief system they grew out of. They simply abandoned a single idea, not anything and everything.
