Perhaps the blue cities in blue states can try communism as a test to see what happens. I'm old enough to remember when Sweden tried full blown communism. Where they taxed the Pipi Longstocking author 100% of what she made from the book. It failed so hard they had to sell Volvo to China and their vodka company to Russia.

102% in fact. They have their 2% yearly inflation goal to force people to spend their savings as fast as possible so the government can take 25% value added tax on every purchase. And Volvo was first sold to GM, then to China.

Many more companies has been sold out to foreign owners to avoid the tax. IKEA, H&M, Volvo, Saab, Spotify, Assa, Electrolux, Ericsson and many more.
