I know someone personally (not political) that was put in a similar situation where they attempted to blackmail them, that person worked with the police to handle the situation. Guilty people do not invite the police/FBI in to wire tap their blackmailers and given they way this has been handled by the FBI, it is clear they want to fuck Gaetz over.
