A conflict with Russia would be catastrophic for everyone. That's the point. Russia isn't afraid to utilize scorched earth. They've done it before. They not worried about losing soldiers. They have a HUGE military stockpile buildup.
If Russia and NATO end up in a conflict, China will 100% enter the fray. Either to defend Russia, or play for their own side. So you'd have the US, China, Russia, UK, France all in a conflict with eachother. Those countries just so happen to have permanent chairs on the UN securities commission.
It'd almost certainly end in nuclear exchanges. Because North Korea is already insane. So is Iran. And the chaos of a large scale engagement would be just what they need to attack and cripple/wipe out the entire western world.
