Oh I've also just developed relationships with local manufacturers (many of them fabricators) for replacement parts I need or even new products. The result is almost always high quality for a minimal difference in price. It's not the actual manufacturing cost that makes American made products significantly more expensive in my experience. It's that they choose to sell through the same middlemen as all the Chinese bullshit and have HUGE cuts taken out of their earnings when they do so.
The only reason that platforms are a necessity for many consumers is because they've decided they are. Even my family members who are die-hard "buy local" people have caved and decided that they want to buy widgets from Amazon and other online retail aggregators. In my personal life separating from these companies was pretty simple. Just consume less.
