Next time you're out in a crowd, look around at the younger couples. How many have their phones in their hand, oblivious to their partner? How many even look up from swiping or typing? How many need the phone in front of the face and are recording? Like they can't handle actual reality so they do this pseudo watching reality kind of thing?
If you know younger couples, ask how many text their significant other even when they're in the same house just different rooms. It's not laziness that drives people to do that. It's the inability to connect and communicate on a human level. Social media has created entire generations, societies of socially stunted and awkward people that cannot adapt, cope, or deal with reality or even adversity.
How do you rehabilitate these people? How do you show them that they're not living? How do you get them to put the phone down? Is it even possible? Social media has become a crutch, an addiction, a paralyzing agent for swaths of people.
It's actually ... really fucking heartbreaking that we as a species have been reduced to this.
