Last week, I quit my job of 3 months. I was absolutely sick of the treatment I got there. I spent 6 months working hard 14 hour days driving a class B milk truck during the week, and I spent the weekends going to school to get my CDL A. All of this so I could spend 7 weeks in iowa getting my ass handed to me with a total of 7 days off inbetween. They call it 'training', I call it bullshit. My family missed me, my gf missed me, and I was absolutely miserable. Even when I got my own truck, I was lucky to get a single day off because they'd send me home at 2am Saturday morning, and expect my ass to leave on sunday night. All this while dealing with a truck that would break down every week, bad loads that barely covered my grocery bills, no way to protect myself from injury because I didn't have health insurance, a horrid dispatcher who hated my guts because of what my training people told him, and a complete lack of respect among drivers by constantly pulling the ABS light out of the trailers. This company was a NIGHTMARE. I put my 2 weeks in on monday, but I just couldn't deal with it by friday. They were planning to force me on a 34 hour reset clear 300 miles from home. So I ended up just taking the truck back and paying a $300 fuel fee to do it. Some things just aren't worth it fellas.
This week, I start with a brand new company. I finished my training, proved I can drive, and I no longer have to do flatbed work. Its all dryvan and reefer from here on out. This company just bought a truck for me and I love it. And the best part? My first load will be DOUBLE of what they were planning to send me on last week. So guys, sometimes you just gotta walk away from a bad deal. And thanks to the wisdom of this man, I'll finally get the pay and the home time I deserve. He created this thriving economy, and I'll for sure be taking advantage of it for as long as I can.
Please let it NOT be TransAm out of Kansas.
I won't touch that company, or any other OTR big corporation. They are all anti driver. From the werner's to the schniders, they will all run the piss out of you and give you no home time. No, this particular company was known as the black and chrome of the road. And before January, I had no idea such an awful company could even exist.
This new place im at is a super local place. They have 5 trucks, and just bought a 6th for me.
GOOD. Most OTR companies are pro money, and SOME managers try to take care of the drivers, most give a lesser shit. I had a ... moral disagreement about an incident and had a psychotic teenager anyway; so I quit and went to school instead.
