I was a cop for a long time, and I had no idea that kneeling on a guy's neck or head was considered acceptable anywhere for simple restraint. I was shocked to see Chauvin kneeling on Floyd's neck, but I also noticed how comfortable he seems doing it. That made me wonder if the force training were wildly different in Minnesota.
If they're training that in Minnesota, then the prosecution has to show that it was inappropriate for the situation or that Chauvin failed to exercise due diligence in assessing Floyd. Since he's a cop and not a nurse, that may be a bit of a hill to climb.
And none of this touches on proving that Chauvin actually caused death. It's just a necessary step to open that argument.

Really makes me wonder about the cops throwing Chauvin under the bus by claiming that obviously untrue bullshit.

Trying to make themselves look better by putting him down. Takes a lot less effort then defending him.
I honestly think that's what it is for a lot of cops.
