That's easy: they created an identifiable image for the left and their media counterparts to smear. They tried to rely on the justice system for protection from said enemies. And they allowed themselves to be controlled by that justice system, which is designed to work against them no matter what. That's what they did wrong.

They should be thanked for any Antifa vermin they handled, not vilified.
