This is why extensions like uMatrix have been so helpful. Globally block anything from *.facebook.com and their respective CDNs. Or, well, any third party sources you don't know or trust.

It isn't a foolproof solution but it will get you far above and beyond whatever everyone else is doing.

Yeah, it has, and I'm aware. I'm not aware of any forks that are current[1], but the problem is that uMatrix does a lot of things that other options (like NoScript) don't or can't. For instance, it gives you much finer granularity over what you can control (CSS, media, XHR, cookies, images, etc., all individually, all per-subdomain, etc).

[1] There are about 3 forks I could find and none of them have seen updates in the last 5 months.
