In many states, you do not need any reason at all to fire someone.

HR wants a reason though. I usually go with attendance. We’re short handed so we are lenient, but all points are recorded.

You assume he has an HR department. I don't have one.

You can be terminated at any time in my state for no reason. You can't be terminated for ANY reason, but for no reason, sure.
