You must not be familiar with the enclaves of Chinese nationals that buy property in Southern California neighborhoods with cash, raze beautiful homes and replace them with McMansions. They generally have no interest in joining the community, speak very little English, and exclusively create their own factions in those neighborhoods. The Taiwanese and those escaping communism generally have a much different attitude, but it seems there are quite a few who are partial to their government abroad.
