Death rate in the US climbed 1.29% in 2014 over 2013, but both 2019 and 2020 had a death rate increase of only 1.12%. COVID had little to no effect on the total number of dead.

Of note, the death rate in the US was dropping .96% a year 2004 to 2008. I wonder what happened in 2008 that made the death rate jump from -.96% to +1.29% in 7 years?

Good point, I bet that is part of it. I was leaning towards unfettered migration for the first big jump right after Obama was selected but was still wondering about the 2nd big spike the year Xi was selected. I think you nailed it.
