As christianity spread across europe, it was easier to convert people if they could keep doing the things they liked to do. They just made the local customs about Jesus. The Jewish calendar was based on the phases of the moon, so the anniversary of Jesus' death and resurrection was actually last week.
Jesus is the only begotten Son of the Almighty who gave up his heavenly position to become the second perfect human man. Unlike Adam, who failed and condemned us all to death, Jesus went through everything imaginable without sin. Because he was killed, divine justice owes him an earth full of perfect children. He will adopt us and make us perfect if we have faith in him and agree that only the Almighty should rule.
