I don’t understand. If his family got the vaccine why should he worry about someone that didn’t?

Because it is not a vaccine:

  • Does not provide immunity
  • Does not prevent spread

However it does allegedly lessen symptoms and chance of death.

So even though it is not a vaccine, it should still give some sense of safety. Meaning the logical fallacy present in the OP is still evident.
