I smoked for 20 years and quit 20 years ago. So far, so good. My auntie just turned 78. Still smokes heavily each day...for 63 years now. Her sister (my mother) smoked for 30 years. Quit 25 years ago and is 84 now; going strong (touch wood)
My step father died of cancer...he smoked 2 packs a day for 45 years. Quit at 59 and died 20 years later. Only developed lung cancer in his final year and that was (probably) from working in a dusty flour mill for 20 years as a young man.
So you tell me. Smoking is NOT an automatic death sentence.
Don't smoke myself, but I have theorized that the nicotine in tobacco, which helps the tobacco plant fight off insects, may also be possibly helping the human body fight off some kind of parasite.
Supposedly 80 to 90% of all people have some kind of parasites in them, but almost all the time your immune system can keep them at bay.
I'm thinking this is why there could be a psychological positive response to smoking.
Just a theory right now.
P.S. Congratulations on quitting.
Keep you immune system in good shape by staying away from manmade chemicals, and try eating lots of organic veggitables, if possible.
I'm on very mild blood pressure medication now because I'm overweight and lazy. I HATE exercise and I pay for someone else to do the gardening. Love the garden but hate gardening and/or mowing the lawns. Yes, its the wrong thing to say...but its easier to take the medication than to dramatically change my lifestyle (i.e exercise and 'healthy' eating). I eat (love) red meat, white bread, white sugar, chocolate, cheese. I reluctantly eat vegetables (3 times a week and rarely eat fruit; but these last few years I've developed a craving, at times, for potato/sweet potato and steamed greens (broccolli and brussel sprouts). I drink alcohol regularly. Sometimes a lot.
I say eat what you enjoy. Your body will let you know...sometime's I'll have a craving for chicken, or fish or peanut butter, or sweets... often its just a sweet doughnut and a black coffee for breakfast; or salty yeast extract on toast. Btw I NEVER use margarine on toast. Always BUTTER (fully salted). I NEVER eat muesli or healthy breakfast cereals. I DON'T drink milk. Just go with the flow. I buy vegetables straight from the supermarket without worrying whether they're 'organic'.
I DO drink a lot of water, filtered rainwater from my own tanks and black tea. I love clean plain water. I'm 62.
I say in moderation, bad food is 'good' for you :)
Yes,
don't, for goodness sake, don't drink the tap water.
I personally drink water from a spring, or bottled water ( in glass bottles, that don't have the plasticizers found in plastic bottles.)
Smoking will only kill you if yr weak imho.
