I smoked for 20 years and quit 20 years ago. So far, so good. My auntie just turned 78. Still smokes heavily each day...for 63 years now. Her sister (my mother) smoked for 30 years. Quit 25 years ago and is 84 now; going strong (touch wood)
My step father died of cancer...he smoked 2 packs a day for 45 years. Quit at 59 and died 20 years later. Only developed lung cancer in his final year and that was (probably) from working in a dusty flour mill for 20 years as a young man.
So you tell me. Smoking is NOT an automatic death sentence.
Smoking is just bad and there should be no doubt about it. Most people who smoke will likely die because of the cardiovascular damage it causes, if they smoke for their entire life. I will tell you though it's danger especially related to lung cancer is greatly exaggerated. If you smoked for 10 years and quit, your increase chance of getting lung cancer, which is 1%, goes to 0% increase. And if anyone tells you second hand smoke is anything but a marketing blitz is a liar. The only concession I would give on second hand smoke is in instance where Flo worked as a waitress in a smoky bar for over 30 years. Then maybe it had an effect.
Tell that to my allergies. Second hand smoke from cigarettes and cigars irritate my sinuses like no other. Spring and fall pollens aren't close and if I don't control those, I get bacterial sinus infection along with bronchitis and a high chance of other infections like cold, flu, and pneumonia.
Communist China's almighty "God" Mao can't be wrong, can he?
Keep smoking you Communist pieces of crap.
Smoking will only kill you if yr weak imho.

I avoid that stuff like the plague.
