There’s an interesting theology argument here, because as long as you strive to be better every day and accept Jesus in your heart, you are saved. Nobody is perfect, only one man has ever been perfect. You don’t have to be perfect to make it to heaven. Only crazed puritanicals would argue that your works aren’t good enough.
“I’ve learned the path to heaven, is full of sinners and believers, learned that happiness on earth ain’t just for high achievers.” - Brooks and Dunn
Christ died for all mankind in principle, not in practice. "That whosoever believeth on him would not die, but have eternal life." Reject Him and you're damned.
Your works ALONE aren't good enough. Works are important. They are proof of faith. Faith without works is dead.. But works without Faith are as a clanging gong or a crashing cymbal. Much sound and fury, signifying nothing. They are a lock and key to the Kingdom of Heaven.
Faith saves us, and you can tell a person has faith based on the fruits of the spirit. Faith without action is dead. If you don't act any different as a Christian, all we can say is you need to seriously self reflect, but we aren't the ultimate judges.
And then you finished it off with Brooks and Dunn! Beautiful!
As a child in church, we were always taught the path to heaven is ABC: Admit, Believe, Commit.
Admit that you have sinned and fallen short.
Believe that Jesus died for your sins, and that they have been washed away by the blood he shed.
And Commit your life to Christ. Live through Christ's teachings and learn what is expected of you as a Christian.
The best part about being a True Child of God and cracking the Bible open for yourself, is that you learn how full of shit so many Modern Christian's are. There are some good legit followers, but there are many who have given Christianity a bad name and don't understand how quickly Jesus would put them in their place if he were here today.
Jesus did NOT play. He knew what was up and wasn't afraid to call people out on their B.S. He loved and cared for the people casted out of society, But didn't suffer fools.
Everyone should try to read the Bible for themselves outside of a church setting. Just open it to a random page and start reading. Proverbs is a great place to start if you feel like you're struggling or need guidance.
Well, I think Scripture also says some things about confessing with your mouth, but yeah I somewhat agree with you. Puritans were a bit nuts, but they were better than Christians who thought they could take the title and live however they please.
Exactly! That’s what the pastor said at our Easter service today. He said a lot of people say it, but if you never change your sinful ways then you didn’t really.
Read about Zacchaeus's encounter with Jesus. Or the encounter with the woman at the well. Also the parable of the Pharisee and the sinner who prayed at the temple. There's always a change in behavior, be it large or small. At the root, the salvation comes from your attitude toward God.
People acknowledge this, but do not understand how grand some of satan's lies are. One being that we live on a plain, not a planet. Space is fake and gay and the earth is flat whether people want to admit it or not.
The way to the Father is through the Son. It’s plain as day in the book. If you believe that Jesus is the son of God, and that He died on that cross for us, AND THEN rose from the dead 3 days later, you will live eternally in the Kingdom of Heaven. That is the only way.
here's the scripture directly from Christ for those who are downvoting, "But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive yours."
Forgiveness and trust are two different things. If you ask a family member to hold your wallet and he steals from you, you can forgive the debt without ever asking him or her to hold your wallet ever again.
There are many Christians who struggle with this. I struggle with it. I've thought about this verse thousands of times.
I don't think God expects us to keep a perfect inventory of every wrong committed, and then deliberately meditate upon it and forgive it. Since we would spend our time doing nothing else.
At the same time, I think God will bring this verse to the attention of every true believer, since it is something we should keep in mind. And it should awe us how truly in need of Christ's salvation we are, since we are so weak.
When I struggle the most, I try to assess whether they were merely trespassing against my own pride, or if they were actually trespassing against God. And if I am blameless of any similar trespasses.
I've struggled with this more in the last few years than I ever thought I would.
I'm really glad Jesus will forgive them, because I can't.

Careful, you’re going to piss off the elitist Christians who only believe they are saved and those who they would punish won’t be.

People like you tarnish Christianity’s reputation
That’s some wisdom from your mother. ‘Not all who say to me Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom’.
1 John is a good book to read to search one’s self.
That is true.
He died for all, but his forgiveness is only for those who turn from their way and believe in him. Pede or commie we need that.
They're wouldn't be any commies left if people turned from their worldly ways.

the Father won't forgive those who can't forgive.

Not forgiving, and not showing mercy means you have hate in your heart. Not trusting an untrustworthy person is just being smart.
Agreed, I never said the contrary.

and trust me, you will feel so much better once you've done it.
Sin less. Give food and water to the homeless when possible. Call your folks (provided they're not commies). Pray often. Avoid grudges.
It seems pretty equitable to me.
He does expect you to forgive everyone. I know, its tough, probably the hardest thing people are asked to do.
one can only be forgiveness if they ask for forgiveness with sincerity. you can't forgive someone who isn't repenting. neither can jesus.
