This is all theater set up by Trump. Dana Perino's show on Fox reported the day after January 6th that Trump and Pence were sitting in the Oval laughing together reminiscing about all their memories and that they're still on good terms.
Trump had to do this because Pence along with Russ Vought are setting up their own MAGA thinktank in DC. It had to happen this way so that they could lay low and stay under the radar.
Why would the man who Trump hand picked and was so chummy with betray in this fashion? He wouldn't. This is all theater while they set up their thinktank. Trump and Pence are still on good terms.

I think you may have a point. But I personally believe he was just too scared of the ramifications of stopping the steal. Him and Trump would've likely been killed. He didn't have what it takes to fight.
The number one reason I wouldn't vote for Pence for dog catcher is something I saw on a video clip years ago now. Trump had his glass of water on teh table, so did Pence. Then Trump reached over, got his water, and put the glass on the floor. Pence saw him do that and picked up his own glass and put it on the floor.
Could it be Pence did this on Trumps command so that they could show what a “Biden Presidency” would do to America? To lay bare the democrats plan to have China take over? To show the world and those still asleep how democrats n rinos do not have citizens best interest at heart and to eventually show all the voter fraud that did happen? Maybe this is the only way to dismantle the corrupt system once n for all by exposing it? Think border during a pandemic! Think alien children going to in person school while American kids are still virtual! Trump wouldn’t just walk away just to have America crumble when he knows his kids n grandkids future is doomed!
