When your country is run by good moral men then a military is good for the country. When your country is run by foreigners, tyrants and criminals then a military composed of the same demographics is bad for good moral men and the country.
A blind spot I've noticed in right-wing people is that they fail to differentiate between moral men and immoral men because they cling onto a false sense of "equality", where all men are equal and you can't actually discern good from bad but this is false. Men are not equal and you can tell good from bad.
