"Science" is only what people who call themselves scientists think at this very moment. It is subject to change and challenges constantly. There was science 50 years ago, different to today. And a hundred years ago, and so on and so on.
50 years ago "scientists" thought infants were incapable of feeling pain and would not administer anesthesia on them for surgery. I'm not making that up.
