They think you're stupid and it's their job as wise and benevolent "leaders" to lead you like cattle to do what they think is best for you.

They don't realize that we don't elect "leaders", we elect representatives who are supposed to represent us in government. They have the power dynamic completely backwards - they work for us on our behalf, we don't work for them.

You'll notice that a lot of the Democrats have started calling themselves "leaders" just to reinforce the idea that they're somehow above us.
