That moment when you realize millions of jews became Christians in His time, and only the thousands were the persecutors. The visible crowds before the pharisees and romans were calling for His execution, not the vast majority.
Matthew 27:22-25 reports on the topic: "'What shall I do, then, with Jesus who is called Christ?' Pilate asked. They all answered, 'Crucify him!' 'Why? What crime has he committed?' asked Pilate. But they shouted all the louder, 'Crucify him!' When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. 'I am innocent of this man's blood,' he said. 'It is your responsibility!' All the people answered, 'Let his blood be on us and on our children!'"
In Acts 2 Peter delivers a sermon on the day of Pentecost, addressing the people of Israel. And Peter says to them, “Men of Israel…Hear these words…this Jesus, delivered up according to the definite plan and foreknowledge of God, you crucified and killed by the hands of lawless men” In other words, Peter is telling the Jews that they were responsible for the crucifixion and death of Jesus.
Then, as now, ordering and overseeing executions was the role of leadership. The messy and unpleasant work of performing those executions were done by the grunts... most likely members of the Auxilia.
The recruitment of non citizens into the official army first occurred under Augustus at the establishment of the Empire roughly 30 years before Christ's birth. Eventually, the Auxilia constituted something like 90% of the Army's head count. However, at the time of the crucifixion it was at least 50-75%.

No forgiveness after you traffic and/or fuck a kid. Mercy is a fast death after a day and fair trial
Go read St. Paul. A temporary hardening of the heart has happened to Israel, so that God may allow Himself to have mercy on the Gentiles as well.
Forgiveness does not eschew responsibility for stopping bad behavior if you have the capability to do so.
The Jews couldn't even have a prisoner beaten without explicit Roman sanction.
The Roman army carried out the crucifixion, which is fitting, since they were the most international and diverse organization in the ancient world.
They weren't very diverse at the time of Christ. That was later, and it was disastrous for military discipline in the long run.
At the time of Christ, legionnaires had to be free born Romans. Latins and trusted foreigners served in auxiliaries which were kept lightly armed.
