Telegram is a Five Eyes company based in the UK, which shares surveillance data with the U.S. NSA. It's like thinking Discuck is secure (and bizarrely enough its users get really mad at me when I point out its problems like the moderators being degenerates like Retarddit and Tencent owning equity, not to mention Microshit wanting to buy it).

Like u/PermaHandshake stated the group chat protocol is unencrypted, so it's fake security a la ProtonMail but they advertise it as the "real thing" to gt everybody into the honeypot.

Telegram is owned by many different interest groups. UAE's state wealth fund owns a large share of Telegram. Russia claims their state wealth fund does as well. The issue with telegram is that most people use it for the group chats and the group chats aren't encrypted so the company telegram can access all the chat logs. That means more than likely, government alphabet agencies have already infiltrated telegram. It's not very secure at all and gives people a false sense of security. Signal at the very least is encrypted and open source so harder for anyone to get the chat logs.
