Just re-watched "Johnny Mnemonic" with Keanu Reeves from 1995. The opening scene is 2021 in Japan or China to a protesting crowd all wearing face masks due to a global pandemic to which they don't know the cause.

To not give a lot away I'll just say there's a worldwide pandemic to which big pharma has the cure. But they are doing everything in their power to suppress it so they can make money on treatments and lower the population instead.
