Washington was a colonel under British rule, then a member of the house of burgesses before the Continental congress existed. He was elite and a military and political leader. He wasn’t a lowly sod buster. The Continental congress was politicians. The Revolution wasn’t a bunch of sod busters taking up arms when the politicians and military said we had to have peace at all costs.
And leaders willing to put it on the line and not condemn patriots for doing and saying patriotic shit.
