HCQ does work, but there appears to be another reason for equitorial African resistance. There is is resistance/immunity all through the paleotropics from west Africa, through India to southeast Asia. The people grew up exposed to that family of corona viruses which are widespread in mammals, especially old world leaf nose bats. South Africa is south of this zone and unfortunately has higher cases and deaths.

What's the average life expectancy of sub-saharan Africa? If they average 15-20 years less than us that would explain a ton as it's mostly the elderly and frail dying off which are much more at risk in Africa of succumbing to many other things before they reach the ripe ages where Corona can kill them.

Average age and life style are certainly part of the survival for sub-saharan Africa. The low incidence and low death rate for Covid continues across India, Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and other countries in the paleotropic zone. We don't see the same low incidence in the tropics of the new world.
