Are you a lion roaming 1000s of acres of forest, or a dog tied up to a tree in a backyard?

When you plant yourself in one place for decades, with the same job for decades, you can't understand how much better it could be.

"But I'm happy where I am."

Go out back to pet your dog and notice how excited he gets. He's happy too. And he's happy because ignorance is bliss. He doesn't know about the forest. He could be shagging every female wild dog imaginable. He could be eating fish and squirrel instead of that shit dog food he's gotta eat every day. But he's still happy because he doesn't know any better. A kid will play with him once in a while. He'll get fleas a couple times. And then he'll die. It's the same fate for these people that never venture out and explore their untapped freedoms, born and raised in the same town they die in. I'm here to tell you, if you live this way, you would be glad you didn't.

Get out there, explore and be adventurous while you still have that one life to live, and you'll thank me for telling you to do so.

I came to that realization my first year of college. Dropped out, got a dog, and lived out of my pickup for 5 years, going from one ski town to another. Hit every state in the continental US eventually and then ended up in Costa Rica for a year.

Ended up getting a girl pregnant, now I have an extremely smart 20yr old daughter, married a much better woman than her mother, got a decent blue-collar career, and nice house on a large chunk of dirt next to a trout stream in southern NM.

Your advice is solid! Why save the exploring for when you are retirement age and can't get around well enough to adventure properly?

I wish I had some more retirement saved, but I'm already comfortable living minimally so I'm sure I'll make whatever happens work. Considering selling the house and property after a while and getting a boat I can cruise the world with!
