The Pharisees didn't like the fact that Jesus had a lot of sway among people. Jesus might not be a political figure but his teachings were affecting the usual politics that the Sanhedrin was playing amongst the people.
Merely a byproduct of righteous thought and ideas. Not political. Just as my outlook on the world from a biblical perspective affects my political decisions, politics is not the reason I view the world biblically.
