I made the mistake of letting my license expire once. I had my expired ID, my social security card, birth certificate, a phone bill for proof of residence AND MY FATHER WITH ME and it wasn’t enough.
I went to a police department office where I was well known due to the nature of my work (they were our regulatory agency) to see if I could get them to pull a criminal background check (one of the accepted forms of ID apparently).
The 1st Sgt said it’d be no problem, took my expired ID and went into the back only to return a few minutes later; no luck. They couldn’t pull the report with an expired ID. What the hell was I supposed to do?
Now if I had a work visa or naturalization papers or even a passport, I could have renewed no problem. But I was born here! I didn’t have any of that stuff.
I had to get my elementary school records, from a guy in a “boiler room” department who was technically supposed to ask me for ID but knew why I was there because the only reason people even came to him was because they needed their records to renew their licenses!
I am 64 years old, in good shape but I still have grey hair and a gray mustache! I have to show picture government ID to buy a six pack of beer in a grocery store.
No problem, you clearly aren't black. I mean, there's no way possible a black person has enough smarts to get one ID, let alone two ID's! Congrats on being white, you won!
lol wait til you have to renew in person. In NJ there's "6 points of ID" + proof of address. If you have to renew in person, you need your current license that counts as I think 4 points, then another photo ID - a work ID maybe, passport, social security card, credit/debit card with your name on it, something from a list of documents, and how many points each are worth toward the 6...and a proof of address, so something like a current utility bill works...which is why I keep at least my cell bill as paper.
But we can't require photo ID to vote...because dats waycis

When I had to switch over my DL, it was like an act of Congress with proof of residency.
Yet to pay my taxes it was (insert SSN#), pay us now. Some states require DL too now.
