In the crime, yes. They still run organized crime in PDX. In the politics, only to the extent that the majority of them (in Portland) are liberal. They have no more or less political influence than any other leftist constituency.
The Portland Black Mafia no longer exists, it's street gangs now, and they keep relatively quiet. I met the daughter of Portland's Black Godfather a few years back. He'd been dead for decades, but I made sure I was extremely polite and respectful to her. When she found out I was in real estate she said "My father was in real estate." I smiled politely, said "how interesting," and changed the subject.
