They bought out great airlines and were allowed to merge in spite of antitrust issues. Delta bought out Northwest, US Airways bought out American, but kept AA name and United bought out very well run Continental. Southwest was also allowed to buy Airtran. Thanks to this consolidation the consumer has few to no choices.
