She said she was not aware of animal testing and I asked her if she was vaccinated. She said yes and I informed her that she is one of the testers as the vaccines do not have final approval and are under emergency authorization only. Everyone getting them ARE the testers. She was not happy with me.

There are some similarities though. A vaccine against your will is being penetrated against your will. Though non-violent, and probably safe for most people it is still a violation of bodily autonomy and liberties.

I make informed decisions when I buy a car. I guess I could call it refusing to bank on the liability of a jalopy. I wouldn't call it refusing, just not in the least interested. Same with the COVAX. ‘Refusing’ is correct when some other party is trying to coerce you into doing it.
“Refused” is the term the medical field routinely uses to indicate someone has declined something. When I am doing my medication administration rounds if my patient doesn’t want a med that has been prescribed them, I chart it as “refused.” It does have negative connotation and I have wondered if there is a better word to use. I don’t think most medical people saying it in regards to the vaccine mean in negatively, it’s just the jargon of the field they are in. I know many doctors, nurses, etc that are uncomfortable with the vaccine and my work isn’t requiring us to get it because in the survey to get info on how people felt about it, over 60% indicated they would never take it, or didn’t want to take it.
Declined would be a better word. Refused to me seems like what a baby does when you try to feed them peas and they move their head out of the way and push you away. Ie you are trying to force them to take it.

Refuse is still the right word. No one is trying to force me to take anti-depressants and no one forced me to get married. If someone is trying to force something on me, I am going to refuse them--first politely and then we'll go from there.
