Give me a scenario that would be illegal before, but now it is legal and we should all be thankful that it is. Because I cannot, for the life of me, come up with one. The hundreds of years old law will allow you to shoot the guy sticking you up while you’re walking out of the store. It will allow you to shoot a school shooter. Nobody has said anything that wouldn’t already have been legally permissible that required this change. That includes you.
Which is precisely all the common sense the prior to this current law which had been in effect for hundreds of years without issue ever required. When the hell has this ever been a problem? It hasn’t. The problem has been with prosecutorial abuse of law abiding citizens who use force lawfully to defend themselves. Expanding this solves none of that. But it does now legalize some pretty egregious pissing contest behavior that results in death. Apparently that’s ok with you. It isn’t with me.

Changing hundreds of years of law to not require you to attempt to leave that situation before resorting to force is not only unnecessary, but unwise. You shouldn't get to skirt out of there with nothing. Human life does mean something. We don't take life for trivial purposes.
The current law DOES NOT require you to surrender to criminals, dipshits. If we all passed Florida's laws shifting the burden to the prosecution before even arresting and charging anyone, we would never ever need to worry about this in 99.99% of situations.

Again, the legal standard is reasonably and safely. You won't be stuck in a scenario where you are pondering if you can. This is a fake news argument that pretends that somehow they'll grey area you into some ninja warrior obstacle escape course with a cliff jump and rappel and since you didn't do that, you are now fucked. It does not work this way. It will be intuitively obvious if you could have safely and reasonably retreated. There is no grey in this standard. 100 out of 100 times, a guy with a gun within 5 feet from you demanding your wallet, there was no way to safely and reasonably retreat from that threat. What you may be neglecting to consider is that if getting up in peoples faces and insulting them results in widespread deaths, people will adapt their behavior and show more respect. Gunfights in the old west were very rare.

What is smart is placing the burden of proof on the prosecutor as Florida does to prove by clear and convincing evidence that the use of force was unlawful. There is zero need to expand the current use of force criteria. What is necessary is to protect citizens rights to use it from prosecutorial abuse.
