When my parents first got covid, it was “you should have gotten vaccinated.” But a week later my aunt and uncle caught it.

When they first caught it, it was “well we only have a mild case because we got vaccinated.” But then it got worse. Worse than my unvaccinated parents had it.

Now we’re in stage: “Well, because of our pre-existing conditions, we would have gone to the hospital if it wasn’t for the vaccine.”

Absolutely idiotic.

My parents are both 67 and overweight. They got covid a few days before my aunt and uncle. They’re now recovering and pretty much over it. Aunt and uncle gloated about getting vaccinated and now they’re on steroids and doing worse.

I have this figured out - the key here is emotional rationalization - the “Logic” is interchangeable from situation to situation because it serves only to Produce an emotional state - smarmy self righteousness.

You have to think like a liberal though - they don’t use rational logic to form conclusions - they rationalize conclusions to arrive at *feelings

It goes one farther: they are herd animals, which is why they feel so frightened when you try to use facts to argue with them: they are genuinely afraid, because their "I am away from the group I am in danger" instincts are kicking in. When they say "oh my god it was so traumatizing", it's not just because they are overly dramatic; it is a seriously upsetting experience to feel alone and out of their "group" protection zone, because you were soloing them out to treat them like an individual, which for a herd animal means "DANGER DEATH IS COMING".

Absolutely they are zebra -

Push to the middle of the herd and hide behind one another. There is nothing more constant than the need for external validation by liberals - if they don’t have a group then they are immediately confronted with the terrifying reality of their own perceived anxious inadequacy.

Being alone leaves them to their own self talk and there is nothing worse than not having anyone affirm you while you try and ignore reality and your conscience
