To paraphrase Archer, and I say this every time my History degree comes up, "What is there to do with an anthropology major but teach other anthropology majors?"
At least my history degree (received from a small classical Christian university) has taught me how to think and gives context to the current geo-political situation. Unlike underwater basket weaving.
It's better than gender studies. With underwater basket weaving you know how to create something. Sure, it's something in really low demand now, but at least it's a positive contribution, unlike gender studies.
Knowledge of history helps make sure mistakes are not repeated... Which means you only really get any use of it if you're in an administrative position with a high level of authority.
Historians are also employed by think tanks and large corporations to study current events relate them to history and predict future events and trends.
Almost every fortune 500 company would hire a historian either directly or indirectly as a consultant.
At least that's my understanding of the situation.

But I enjoyed Underwater Basket Weaving.

We used to have a joke in our department.
Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it. Those that do study history are doomed to be ignored while idiots repeat it.
Ours was:
Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it, we are doomed to re-derive it.
I feel that statement.

And it gets worse when you look at the numbers. How many students does a teacher teach? Okay, so one of them can be a teacher...what about the rest?
Theyre just taking it as an elective hopefully.
