Leaving aside the troubling issue of hiring pilots based on ANYTHING besides competence at flying a plane, this is a retarded statement.
Its not like there are hordes of women or blacks wishing they could be pilots. Companies are desperate for pilots no matter their race or gender. Being an airline pilot fucking sucks ass. They don't even want to talk to you if you weren't an Air Force pilot. There aren't many of those though, so they train a handful of people every year. Once you're trained you're looking at a decade of flying 10 hops a day in a shitty regional jet and making barely above minimum wage.
If you kiss enough ass during that decade you can get into a real plane flying longer domestic hops and if you're lucky you'll earn almost a quarter of what an entry level programmer makes at Facebook and you'll only spend half your nights away from your family.
Then, if you can last another decade you might get a chance to fly international or long-haul flights. You'll be making 6 figures and only flying one (or maybe two) legs per day, but you'll only have about 10 years left before the FAA requires you to retire.
That's why most young pilots are fucking off to go fly for Chinese or other Asian airlines. They are paying hundreds of thousands for pilots because they have huge shortages. That's why United is trying to recruit women and PoCs. Because the white men who normally become pilots talk to each other and they know US airlines pay like shit and treat pilots like shit.
